LAHORE: The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) inspection teams while intensifying its enforcement actions against businesses involved in delayed tax payments and manipulation of records, conducted detailed scrutiny of records at 18 business points located in upscale areas of the city and imposed heavy fines on several businesses for violating laws.
The PRA officials said during the operation, records of five well-known restaurants, six hotels, four fast food chains and three cafés were examined. Heavy fines were imposed and notices were issued for violations of PRA laws, they added.
According to the PRA chairman, implementation of the Electronic Invoicing and Monitoring System (E-IMS) in the services sector will be ensured at all costs. He stated that timely payment of taxes directly contributes to the continuity and expansion of public welfare projects.
He further said that collecting tax from the public and failing to deposit it into the national exchequer is a punishable offense under the law. Therefore, public is requested to verify the tax paid through the PRA facilitation application to ensure transparency and compliance, he stressed.
