KARACHI: Pakistan rupee posted marginal gain for another week as it appreciated by Re0.06 or 0.02 percent against the US dollar in the inter-bank market.
The local unit closed at 279.56, against 279.62 it had closed the week earlier against the greenback, according to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP). In a key development, the Interna-tional Monetary Fund (IMF) said Pakistan’s reform efforts under its programme had helped stabilise the economy and rebuild confidence, citing improved fiscal discipline and stronger external accounts.
“Pakistan’s policy efforts under the EFF (Extended Fund Facility) have helped stabilise the economy and rebuild confidence,” said IMF Director of Communications, Julie Kozack, while responding to a question. Pakistan recorded a current account surplus of USD121 million in January 2026. However, on a cumulative basis, the country posted a current account deficit of USD1.07 billion during July-January FY26, compared to a surplus of USD560 million in the same period last fiscal year.
Foreign exchange reserves held by the SBP increased by USD19 million during the week ended February 13, 2026, reaching USD16.20 billion (USD16,196.9 million). Pakistan’s total liquid foreign reserves stood at USD21.30 billion (USD21,301.5 million) as of February 13.
Open-market rates
In the open market, the PKR gained 12 paise for buying and 4 paise for selling against USD, closing at 280.04 and 280.62, respectively. Against Euro, the PKR gained 2.94 rupees for buying and 2.90 rupees for selling, closing at 328.95 and 331.90, respectively.
Against UAE Dirham, the PKR gained 10 paise for both buying and selling, closing at 76.45 and 77.19, respectively.
Against Saudi Riyal, the PKR gained 4 paise for buying and 3 paise for selling, closing at 74.75 and 75.34, respectively.
