CARACAS: Venezuela’s former National Assembly vice president Juan Pablo Guanipa, a close ally of opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, announced on Friday his release from prison after a long-awaited amnesty law was approved.
“After 10 months in hiding and almost nine months of unjust imprisonment, I confirm that I am now completely free,” Guanipa wrote on Instagram, alongside an image of him holding the country’s flag.
He had been detained and placed under house arrest just hours following his release from prison earlier this month, after spending eight months behind bars.
