LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has directed the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to formulate and implement rules to prevent the use of illegal mobile SIMs.

The court passed this order in a petition of a suspect, Muhammad Usman seeking bail, in an illegal SIM cards selling case and emphasized on the importance of taking proactive measures.

The National Counter Terrorism Authority (NCTA) had registered the case against the accused for selling illegal SIM cards.

The court observed, “We have already faced terrorism, and our nation has made great sacrifices. We cannot afford illegal SIMs to be used in terrorism”, the court added.

Earlier, the petitioner’s counsel argued that the case against the accused was based on incorrect facts. He, therefore, asked the court to allow bail to the suspect.
