KARACHI: Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hasan Lanjar has said that maintaining law and order is the government’s top priority because “if there is peace, there will be business,” and when commercial activities flourish freely, the country progresses.

He added that when the economic wheel turns at a faster pace, the people become prosperous.

Speaking at dinner meeting hosted by Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), he said his foremost priority is to make the province a cradle of peace and stability, and all institutions are working in coordination and harmony to achieve this objective.

He said, “You are our asset, and our pride is because of you. The honour, dignity, and prestige of this province are closely linked to the vital role played by the business community.”

He informed that practical measures are underway to address road and traffic management issues, while a coordinated strategy has been adopted to curb street crime and other criminal activities.

Referring to the ongoing mega operation in the katcha (riverine) areas, he said the operation is being conducted on the basis of modern technology, and the Sindh Police and Rangers have demonstrated commendable zeal and professional expertise.

He appreciated both institutions for paving the way to bring the operation to its logical conclusion.

He further stated that in due course, he would request the Chief Minister of Sindh to create investment opportunities in the katcha areas, as the people there have an equal right to development and prosperity as citizens of other regions.

Zia-ul-Hasan Lanjar also stressed that constructive criticism is beneficial for the government, but criticism for the sake of criticism should be avoided, as meaningful consultation forms the foundation of good governance.

On the occasion, Atif Ikram Sheikh President of FPCCI remarked that the Sindh government’s measures against street crime and other criminal activities are reassuring.
