JC session on Gul Plaza fire incident held

KARACHI: The Judicial Commission session to investigate the Gul Plaza fire incident was held Wednesday. All institutions summoned for the investigation were present including DG Rescue 1122, the President of the Gul Plaza Traders Association, and the CEO of K-Electric (KE).

Responding to the Commission’s inquiries, DG Rescue 1122 shared that the fire fighting attempts started from Brigades before moving to on-ground attempts.

All equipment including grill cutters were available, however, most of the 16 exits were inaccessible.

He further shared that Rescue 1122 had requested KE to initiate a local shutdown but the final decision was taken at KE’s behest.

Tanvir Pasta, President of the Gul Plaza Trade Association, responding to the inquiries set forth by the Commission, shared that the fire started at 10:10 PM from Shop Number 194.

To prevent further spread, he requested KE to initiate a local shutdown due to the presence of a substation within the building. Fire extinguishers were available and being used on floors above to prevent spread.

He maintained that no exits were inaccessible.

The proceedings will be continued tomorrow.
