KARACHI: A high-level capacity building workshop was organized, here on Monday, on methods and suggestions related to anti-corruption, good governance and complaints redresses mechanisms.
Sindh Ombudsman and Transparency International-Pakistan collaborated for this event, which was attended by heads of various departments of Government of Sindh.
Sindh Ombudsman Mohammad Sohail Rajput, Chairman TI-Pakistan, Justice R. Zia Pervez and Chair Transparency International, Francois Valerian graced the event as special guests.
Addressing the workshop, the Ombudsman said that we have ensured a significant increase in the registration of public complaints through awareness via media, social media, open courts, seminars, workshops, ambassador programs and other mediums. He said that 2660 complaints were resolved on the spot during open courts in rural areas. For effective redressals of public complaints, he said, his office has entered agreements with various non-governmental organizations including reputable organizations like Transparency International, Red Crescent and HANDS. It also held review meetings, seminars and workshops with the heads of government institutions. In addition, the Ombudsman office had provided many students with internship.
The Ombudsman Office has established standing committees which have proved fruitful and for building peoples’ trust, launched a mobile app and complaint management system that helps the complainant to directly monitor the implementation of his complaint.
The Chairman of Transparency International Pakistan Former Justice Zia Pervez, Chair Transparency International, Francois Valerian, Banking Ombudsman Sirajuddin Aziz, CEO Sindh Healthcare Commission Ahsan Qavi, Executive Director TI Pakistan Kashif Ali, Chief Information Commissioner Dr. Javed Ali, Regional Head FOSPA Sabqa Shah, Consultant IT Akmal Naseem and others also spoke the workshop and presented methods and suggestions related to the subject.
During the question hour session, the participants emphasized practical steps along with their suggestions on the topic. At the end of the workshop, the guests were also presented with commemorative shields and certificates of appreciation.
