Rain likely to hit Karachi today evening, tomorrow: PMD

  • Port city also expected to experience dusty winds

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast a chance of thunderstorm and rain in Karachi on Monday evening and Tuesday under the influence of a westerly wave.

The port city is also expected to experience dusty winds blowing faster than usual, with concerns that visibility may be affected at times.

“Rain of light to moderate intensity likely in Dadu, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Jamshoro, Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Khairpur and Karachi Division today (evening/night) & tomorrow,” the Met Office stated.

According to the meteorological department, a western disturbance is expected to reach the western parts of the country today, with its effects extending to various regions, including Sindh. Under this system, light to moderate rain has been predicted for Karachi.

Whereas, the metropolis is expected to experience minimum 17 °C and maximum 30 °C temperature for the next two days.

Meanwhile, weather in most parts of the province is expected to remain dry with cold nights. According to the department, a slight drop in temperature is likely, while cool winds are expected to blow in the upper regions.

The Met Office on February 14 forecast that a shallow westerly wave was expected to approach western Pakistan on Monday evening. Under the influence of this weather system, light to moderate rain and thunderstorms were anticipated in Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, Qilla Saifullah, and several other districts across Balochistan from the night of February 16 through February 17.
