LAHORE: Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique inaugurated Punjab’s first Extracorporeal Shockwave Lithotripsy Unit at Children’s Hospital Lahore.

On this occasion, vice-chancellor University of Child Health Sciences Prof. Masood Sadiq, MD Children’s Hospital Professor Tipu Sultan, Professor Junaid Rashid and other faculty members were present on the occasion.

Khawaja Salman Rafique also visited the innocent children undergoing treatment in the unit. So far 21 children have been treated through this modern facility.

Expressing his views on the occasion, Salman said that the establishment of Punjab’s first Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL) unit is an important milestone towards modern and effective treatment of kidney stones in children.

According to the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, providing free and timely medical facilities of world-class quality to children is the top priority of the government. Thanks to this modern unit, it will be possible to relieve innocent children from painful stones without major surgery, he said.

He further said that Children’s Hospital Lahore is already a prominent institution in terms of treatment of children and this new facility will further improve its services. The Punjab government will continue to take special steps to provide modern medical facilities, upgrade hospitals and treat children across the province so that every child can be provided with the best treatment and a secure future, Salman added.

Moreover, the minister Khawaja Salman Rafique attended the first session of the two-day 8th International Pakistan Society of Pediatric Oncology Conference at University of Child Health Sciences.
