KARACHI: Expressing serious concern over snatching of motorcycles and other valuables from the son of PDP media coordinator Aziz Fatima by muggers, Pasban Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman Altaf Shakoor said that street crime is again rising in megacity Karachi, while police is in deep slumber.

Three-armed criminals on Thursday intercepted the son of Aziz Fatima at FTC Flyover while he was returning from his office and snatched a motorcycle, mobile phone, purse and other valuables from him. Earlier, the bandits had robbed her other son on January 6 at the Nursery flyover.

Altaf Shakoor said it is worrisome that bandits are looting citizens at the busy Shahara-e-Faisal. He said citizens face great trouble for even getting their FIRs registered as the police often opt not to cooperate. He said the culture in our police station is still that of the old colonial era in which citizens are discouraged to get their cases lodged.

He asked the Karachi police to beef up patrolling and set up check posts at the places where street crime is rampant. He said the police have plainly failed to improve law and order in Karachi and provide the citizens safety and security.

He said armed criminals are roaming freely in different areas of Karachi and looting citizens without any fear. He said not only the police but the rangers are also deployed in Karachi but still the law-and-order situation is pathetic.

Shakoor demanded to provide justice to Aziz Fatima and other affected citizens by arresting the culprits and recovering looted goods from them. He demanded that the lingering Safe City project should be completed as soon as possible.
