RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) acting chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, on Tuesday, while quoting jailed PTI founding chairman Imran Khan’s wife’s family members, said that Khan was taken to the hospital for medical treatment on the advice of doctors.
Talking to the media near Adiala jail, he said that though he and Khan’s sisters Aleema Khan, Dr Uzma Khan, and Noreen Khan were not allowed to meet incarcerated party leader, as Tuesday is the designated visitation day, but family members of Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi, including Bushra Bibi’s daughter and sister-in-law, were permitted to meet her. Quoting Bushra Bibi’s family member, Gohar said that Khan’s wife said that Khan was taken to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PTI) with the advice of doctors. According to Bushra Bibi, Imran Khan’s health has improved compared to earlier, though he is not yet fully recovered.
Like the previous week Barrister Gohar, PTI secretary general Salman Akram Raja and other leaders and a large number of party workers staged sit-in after Khan’s sisters and legal team denied meeting with Khan. The participants of sit-in chanted slogans demanding Imran Khan’s release as well as against the government.
Aleema Khan while talking to media accused PTI Senator Mashal Yousafzai of spreading false information on electronic media and questioned her sincerity toward Khan.
To a question about the statement of PTI Senator Mashal Yousafzai in which she reportedly said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi had ended the sit-in on January 29 in front of Aidal Jail following the instructions of Aleema Khan, she did not issue any instructions to Afridi to end the sit-in in front of Adiala Jail.
“Senator Mashal Yousafzai spreads falsehoods on television under instructions and is “fulfilling her assigned responsibility,” she said while talking to reporters. She said that she does not believe Mashal is sincere toward the PTI founder.
According to her, Mashal Yousafzai and Sher Afzal Marwat have been given a specific target against her.
She claimed that the PTI founder had earlier said from jail that after using agencies, “they will eventually crush you.” She said that they came to know about the PTI founding chairman’s medical report only last Tuesday upon arriving at Adiala Jail.
She questioned how the news was leaked and who was responsible, maintaining that the leak was deliberately done to divert attention. She accused certain quarters of trying to divert attention from the February 8 protest and warned that if pressure is not applied, “they will continue to treat us the same way.”
Aleema Khan stressed that they do not want treatment, but the release of the Khan. She said that authorities are fearful, which is why they keep saying meetings will not be allowed.
Aleema Khan said that till date, they have not been officially informed about the PTI founding chairman’s health. She stated that the PTI founder had earlier mentioned an issue with his eye. She revealed that Dr Asim from Shaukat Khanum hospital had taken a blood sample, but jail authorities stopped it.
According to her, jail officials said all tests would be conducted at Pakistan Institute of Medial Sciences (PIMS) hospital. She claimed that jail authorities took Khan’s medical file from Dr Asim. Later, one of their doctors visited PIMS Hospital but was shown the report without being given a copy.
Aleema Khan alleged that the latest medical report was released by the authorities themselves. She said that if they were not involved in leaking the report, then three or four individuals who had access to it would have been suspended.
She claimed that the PTI chairman was taken secretly because authorities were afraid something might happen to him. She questioned why the news was leaked and why the family was not informed that he had been taken to hospital.
She emphasised that they want a proper medical check-up of the Khan with his personal physician. She demanded that Dr Asim Yousaf, along with relevant specialists, be allowed to examine the PTI founder’s eye. PTI doctors have recommended that it would be better to shift him to Al-Shifa Hospital.
