Mobile Market fire extinguished

KARACHI: The fire erupting in the Al-Najeebi Building (Mobile Market) Saddar was extinguished by the quick action of the Municipal and Rescue teams; no human loss or injuries were reported.

However, some vehicles parked there were reported to have been burnt.

According to a statement issued by Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab reached the Mobile Market to directly supervise the rescue operation. Around 250 people were rescued.

The Mayor of Karachi, along with the President of the Market Association, climbed onto a snorkel and inspected the rescue work.

The fire was brought under control due to the timely action of the rescue teams. The role of the fire brigade has been very important. For which “we are grateful to the Mayor of Karachi,” remarked President of the market association, Muhammad Minhaj Gulfam.

He said that the administration has learnt lessons from past incidents. The fire brigade personnel reached the spot within three to four minutes.

“All institutions were active and our business community is completely satisfied.”

Today, property worth billions of rupees was safe and, more importantly, precious human lives were saved in a very efficient way, said Gulfam.

He said that 200 to 250 people have been safely evacuated, and the cooling process is underway after the fire was brought under control.

The Mayor also expressed his satisfaction that today, the administration and the fire brigade did an excellent job. The building association also had firefighting equipment available, which helped in controlling the fire.
