Use of social media by under age kids: LHC seeks replies from centre seeking ban
LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) sought replies from the federal government and others in a petition filed by a student Aliya Saleem seeking ban on the use of social media by the under age children.
The court observed that it was a policy matter and asked the respondents to submit their replies by February 13.
Earlier, the petitioner’s counsel contended that social media was causing serious harm to the moral and mental development of children. The developed countries were also considering restrictions on social media use by underage children, she added.
The counsel also told the court that Australia and France had imposed a ban on use of social media by children recently while Norway, Malaysia and New Zealand were also considering to frame necessary laws on the matter.
She, therefore, asked the court to order a ban on use of social media by children under age of 16 years.
