PESHAWAR: A personalised mark (choice number plate) ‘Khan 1’ fetched a sum of Rs.11.1 million and stood third in the auction of the personalised number plates held under the auspices of Excise & Taxation Department at Nishtar Hall here on Tuesday.

Khan 1 personalised number plate was named after the PTI founder Imran Khan. The provincial government was expecting much higher bidding for the number plate.

‘Wazir 1’ pitched the highest bid and sold for Rs.15 million followed by ‘Afridi 1’ that a bid of Rs.14 million. Khan 1 was received by a former Provincial Minister PTI affiliated MPA Nek Muhammad Khan Wazir while Wazir 1 and Afridi 1 went to the renowned businessman and owner of Peshawar Zalmi, Javed Afridi.

Among other notable sales, “Peshawar 1” was auctioned for Rs 10 million, “Haripur 1” for Rs 8 million, and “Yousafzai 1” for Rs.49 lakhs and 20 thousands.

Similarly, “Durrani 1” was sold for Rs.16 lakhs, 60 thousand, “Malakand 1” for Rs. 12 lakhs, 50 thousands, while “Swabi 1” was auctioned for Rs.12 lakhs.

The auction was conducted under a single-bidding mechanism, while the remaining choice number plates will be offered through e-bidding. The vibrant public participation and competitive bidding process clearly highlighted the success of this unique initiative.

The auction featured personalized, tribal, political and region-based choice number plates, which attracted special attention from bidders and is expected to generate substantial revenue for the provincial exchequer.

Speaking in this regard, the Provincial Minister Syed Fakhar Jehan termed the choice number plates’ initiative a unique and citizen-centric project and said that, by the grace of Allah, it proved highly successful due to overwhelming public interest.

He congratulated the successful bidders and announced that in response to public demand more personalized choice number plates will be offered through e-bidding in the future.
