PESHAWAR: Rescue 1122 remained fully active during heavy snowfall and provided full relief services and safely evacuated around 3010 persons trapped in snow across the province.

According to a spokesman of Rescue 1122 Khyber Pakhtunkhwa the emergency response service recovered 942 vehicles from the snow and restored traffic. Hundreds of affected people were provided immediate medical assistance on the spot, while 60 important roads and highways were cleared with heavy machinery, the statement added. Rescue operations continued day and night in Tirah Valley and adjacent areas. A total of 535 personnel and 190 vehicles participated in the operation, spokesperson continued.

He said the department set up 32 temporary rescue points in the affected districts. All rescue stations are on high alert, rescue activities are ongoing. People are advised to avoid unnecessary travel in bad weather and contact 1122 in case of emergency.

In tribal districts Orakzai and Kurram where snowfall and torrential rains have paralyzed life Pakistan Army has launched immediate humanitarian and rescue operations to assist affected communities, rescue stranded residents, reopen critical roads, and provide vital humanitarian assistance. Severe snowfall in Orakzai blocked all major and remote routes, bringing transportation to a complete halt. The situation had become so critical that even burial of deceased persons was not possible.

Responding immediately, the Pakistan Army deployed heavy machinery and manpower to reopen key roads and access routes, providing timely relief and restoring connectivity for local residents. Meanwhile, in district Kurram, the Pakistan Army also initiated swift rescue operations in snow-affected areas.

With the help of heavy machinery, the 8-kilometer Tando Obo Road was reopened. However, the Manato–Sadda Road remained completely blocked due to heavy snowfall, resulting in several vehicles being stranded.

Army teams continued their efforts despite harsh weather conditions to assist affected travelers and restore road access. Meanwhile, in view of the damage caused to the power system after the heavy snowfall, teams of the relevant departments are active in Dir Upper carrying snow clearance operation, repairing and restoring power was in full swing.

According to the report of Line Superintendent PESCO, electricity supply has been restored in 60 percent of the areas of Tehsil Warai. Similarly, the repair work of damaged electricity poles has been completed in some areas of Dir Town, where electricity supply has been restored.

In addition, PESCO field staff is working on an emergency basis to restore power in Tehsils Larjam, Baarwal, Sharingal and Kalkot.

The district administration has appealed the public to be patient during the repair work and not to disturb PESCO personnel working in the field with unnecessary phone calls; so that the rehabilitation process can be completed in a timely, safe and effective manner. The district administration is continuously monitoring the situation in Dir and is utilizing all resources to ensure the provision of all possible relief to the public.
