KARACHI: The Sindh government has approved the provision of financial assistance amounting to Rs. 12.5 million to 230 athletes under the Endowment Fund.
According to a spokesperson, this decision has been taken for the welfare of deserving and needy athletes of the province.
Secretary Sports Sindh Munawar Ali Mahesar stated that on the directives of Sindh Minister for Sports, Muhammad Bakhsh Mahar, financial assistance is being provided on an annual basis to deserving athletes of Sindh under the Endowment Fund, so that they may remain associated with sports despite financial hardships.
A meeting of the annual Endowment Fund Committee for the financial assistance of athletes of Sindh was held under the chairmanship of Secretary Sports Sindh, Munawar Ali Mahesar, which approved the provision of annual financial assistance to athletes across the province through the Endowment Fund. According to the spokesperson of the Sports Department, a total of 230 athletes will be provided financial assistance of approximately Rs. 12.5 million from the Endowment Fund.
The spokesperson further informed that the beneficiaries of the financial assistance include around 30 widows of deceased athletes.
The applicants belong to various sports disciplines including hockey, football, boxing, kabaddi, Malakhra (traditional wrestling), and other sports. The government will continue to provide financial assistance to sick, poor, and deserving athletes of the province in the future as well.
Mahesar said that all applications received for financial assistance under the Endowment Fund are thoroughly scrutinized by a committee before the disbursement of aid. He said that athletes suffering from serious illnesses or widows of deceased athletes may submit their applications for financial assistance under the Endowment Fund.
