HYDERABAD: The 29th convocation was held in Mehran University’s Mak Auditorium on Saturday 24th January in four sittings. In the convocation, a total of 1007 students received their degrees, including 34 PhD, 75 Masters and 898 Bachelors degrees.

Nawal son of Riyaz Hussain Shaikh, a student of mathematics department won two gold medals and one silver medal in the convocation of Mehran University.

Sonam Devi D/O of Mukesh Kumar Lohano of Institute of Environmental Engineering and Management won one gold medal and one silver medal and got first position in his field, Imran Shaikh son of Electronics Department got one gold medal and one silver medal, Uqba Isha son of Shabi Memon of Garments and Manufacturing Khalid won one gold medal and one silver medal.

Similarly, Sultan Salahuddin Khan son of Asimuddin Khan Yousafzai of chemical engineering department made history by winning one gold medal and one silver medal. In this way, other 18 male and female students from different fields won the first position in their field and won the San Silver Medal.

Addressing the convocation, Vice Chancellor of Mehran University Professor Dr Taha Hussain Ali said that today is a historic day for more than a thousand families in Sindh, every graduate and scholar who has taken a degree will bring development to their home, neighbourhood and our country.

He said that Mehran and the ambassadors of the country are the youth who are the Shaheen of Iqbal. He said that in the recent past, Maharan has produced a maximum of 34 PhD’s who have obtained degrees today.

Addressing the convocation and talking to the media, Provincial Minister of Universities and Boards Department of Sindh Muhammad Ismail Rahu said that today is a historic day in the history of Sindh and the country. Sindh province is spending the most on higher education in the country.

Pakistan People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Sahib’s vision is that every district of Sindh should have a university or a university campus.

Mohammad Ismail Rahu said that during the Tehreek-e-Insaf period, the higher education budget was cut down and the universities were in crisis. Now the public universities of Sindh will not suffer from the lack of budget.

He said that in public universities, the court orders are being implemented according to the law, and in those universities where legislation is needed, guidelines have been issued and legislation should be implemented soon.

Muhammad Ismail Rahu said that Mehran University Malik, which is a well-known institution in the country, is happy to meet the students and their parents in the convocation of Mehran.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Taha Hussain Ali said that Mehran Malik is a year-old higher education institution where a degree is a matter of honour.

He said that we do not train the students only to get employment, but we teach the students to become responsible individuals of the society, we educate them who are the leaders of the future.

He said that this day is a day of celebration for students, their parents and teachers. Mehran University is my effort to run the university according to the vision of 2030, which includes sustainable development, hundred percent digitization of the university, connecting the university with the world’s alumni.

Speaking on this occasion, the Secretary of the Department of Universities and Boards, Muhammad Abbas Baloch said that this day is the result of the hard work of the teachers and the investment made by the parents, who are taking more than one thousand engineering degrees.

He said that he congratulated all the students and scholars who got their degrees in the Ion convocation. These engineers will play a central role in the economic development of the country. It is the responsibility of an educated person to play a role in the development of the country and society.

He said Sindh government is spending more budget than other provinces of the country on public universities of Sindh province. Sindh is playing a leading role in the field of higher education in Pakistan.

Muhammad Abbas Baloch said that I say to the degree students, do not leave your country and play a role for the country’s development.

The children in SOS Village in Jamshoro need the help and encouragement of educated people like you. A degree should not only be useful for your personal happiness, it should also be useful for the development of your surroundings.

The first session of the convocation of Mehran University was chaired by Mehman Khas Universities and Boards Department Secretary Muhammad Abbas Baloch, while Vice Chancellor of Mehran University Professor Dr Taha Hussain Ali presided.

The second seat is the guest of the Department of Universities Boards of Sindh, Provincial Minister Muhammad Ismail Rahu, the third seat is the guest of the Training, Management and Research Wing of the Department of General Administration and Coordination Noor Ahmad Simon, and the fourth seat is the guest of Sindh Madrasah Al Salam University, Karachi, the vice chancellor Professor Dr Mujeebuddin Sehrai

The commencement of the convocation ceremony was announced by the registrar of Mehran University Prof Dr Nasrullah Pirzadi. During the convocation, a job fair was also organized by Mehran University, in which more than 40 companies stopped by and who submitted CVs and applications, had a job interview.
