KARACHI: A meeting of the Sindh Transport and Mass Transit Department was held here on Friday to review the progress of various ongoing transport projects in the city, especially the Red Line and Yellow Line BRT.
Chaired by Senior Minister and Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon, the meeting was attended by Secretary Transport Asad Zamin, CEO Trans Karachi Fawad Ghaffar Soomro, Project Director Yellow Line BRT Zameer Abbasi and other officers of Sindh Mass Transit Authority.
SMTA officers briefed the Senior Minister about the plans to introduce more new EV buses and EV taxis in the city. The CEO Trans Karachi gave a briefing on the ongoing work on the Red Line and said that work was being completed on both sides of the Red Line BRT near NIPA Chowrangi.
The Project Director of the Yellow Line BRT informed about the progress of the project and said that the demolition of the second part of the Senator Taj Haider Bridge is underway, on which construction activities will start soon.
Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said that all resources are being utilized for the completion of all projects within the stipulated time frame. Red Line and Yellow Line BRT would play an important role in connecting important places and business centers of the city, and to avoid any delay, immediate resolution of the problems at the field level should be ensured.
He said that the development of any city is not possible without modern urban transport and the completion of BRT projects would significantly improve the transport system of Karachi.
He issued instructions to start the second phase of Pink Scooties soon and to organize Pink Scooties distribution programmess in Karachi as well as other cities.
