KARACHI: Among the total 86 missing persons in the tragic Gul Plaza fire incident, human remains of 25 victims were recovered on Tuesday as rescue operations continued for the fourth consecutive day.
“We have recovered human remains which, according to experts, belong to 25 individuals,” Deputy Commissioner South Javed Nabi Khoso told Business Recorder, adding that their identification could only be confirmed after DNA sampling.
He further confirmed that a total of 11 bodies have so far been identified, while 86 persons are still reported missing. Khoso said the rescue operation would continue until the last missing person is retrieved.
“We will not end the operation until even a single missing person is recovered,” he added.
Meanwhile, Chief Police Dr. Summaiya Tariq said that a total of 14 individuals have been identified so far. She stated that instead of complete bodies, only human remains are now being recovered from the debris, and their condition is extremely deteriorated.
According to Dr. Summaiya, the recovered remains include broken human bones and fractured teeth. She added that due to the bones being badly damaged, DNA samples cannot be collected, which is creating serious difficulties in handing over the remains to the heirs.
