Published Updated

KARACHI: The TAL Joint Venture has reported a significant gas discovery from its exploratory well Bilitang-1, located in the TAL Block in Kohat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province. The discovery marks an important milestone in Pakistan’s ongoing exploration efforts and strengthens the outlook for the TAL Block.

The joint venture consists of MOL Pakistan Oil & Gas Co. B.V. (Operator, 10 percent Working Interest), Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL, 30 percent WI), Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL, 30 percent WI), Pakistan Oilfields Limited (POL, 25 percent WI), and Government Holdings Private Limited (GHPL, 5 percent WI).

Bilitang-1 was spudded on August 10, 2025, and successfully reached a total depth of 4,011 meters True Vertical Depth (TVD). Preliminary analysis using Logging While Drilling (LWD) and wireline logs confirmed that the Lockhart formation, the exploratory target, is producing gas at a rate of 1.37 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) at a 32/64” choke, with a wellhead flowing pressure of 254 psi.

According to the joint venture, this discovery not only confirms the hydrocarbon potential of the Lockhart formation but also de-risks further exploration in the TAL Block, creating new opportunities for development and potential commercial production. The company emphasised that this finding enhances the region’s energy prospects and reinforces investor confidence in Pakistan’s upstream sector.

The announcement was made in compliance with Section 96 of the Securities Act, 2015, and Clause 5.6.1 of the Pakistan Stock Exchange Regulations, ensuring transparency for investors and market participants.

The disclosure has also been shared with the Securities & Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) for regulatory purposes.

With growing energy demand in Pakistan, industry analysts suggested that the Bilitang-1 discovery could play a key role in strengthening domestic gas supply, supporting local industries, and contributing to the country’s energy security in the coming years.
