It is heartening to note that Tehreek-e-Tahafuz-e-Ayeen-e-Pakistan (TTAP) chairman Mahmood Khan Achakzai has been appointed leader of the opposition in the National Assembly.

His appointment as leader of the opposition will augur well for the prospects of political stability in the country.

Needless to say, the growing tensions between Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the incumbent government, polarization, and violence have been posing significant threats to democracy in the country. It is, therefore, widely expected that the veteran Pashtun leader from Balochistan will take steps aimed at lowering the tensions between the party of incarcerated Imran Khan and prime minister Shehbaz Sharif-led government by playing the role of a bridge between the two. In sum, Achakzai is too good at reading the “political landscape”.

He seems to have the required skills to navigate diverse stakeholders effectively.
