LAHORE: Cold weather and dense fog have intensified across Punjab, including Lahore, where temperatures have dropped to around five degrees Celsius.
In response to the worsening weather conditions, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued alerts to multiple departments, directing them to remain on high alert and implement precautionary measures against the cold. Notifications have been sent to departments including tourism, education, health, agriculture, local government, forest, C&W, transport, Rescue 1122, the National Highway Authority, and the police.
According to PDMA Punjab, the cold spell is expected to intensify across the province from January 10 to January 16. Severe cold and snowfall are likely in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyaat, and the Pothohar region, while fog and smog conditions are also expected to worsen. Educational institutions have been instructed to issue advisories to students regarding warm clothing and to ensure adequate heating arrangements in classrooms.
Moreover, hospitals, particularly basic health units, have been directed to ensure the availability of medicines and medical staff. Citizens are urged to take precautionary measures, wear masks, and avoid unnecessary travel.
According to PDMA authorities, the PDMA control room continues to monitor the situation 24/7 across the province. Authorities have further advised the public to avoid non-essential travel during adverse weather.
