KARACHI: Chairperson, Benazir Income Support Programme, Senator Rubina Khalid has advised the BISP beneficiary women to obtain free SIMs issued for the Social Protection Wallet (SPW) to ensure transparency, ease, and security in payments.

Like all other BISP services, she said, these SIMS are free of cost. For the first time in the country’s history, digital accounts of 10 million women are being opened.

She urged the women to report any individual involved in fraud or exploitation in the name of BISP, assuring that strict action would be taken against those elements.

During her visit to BISP Tehsil Office Aram Bagh, District South and the Dynamic Registry Center, in Karachi on Monday, the BISP Chief interacted with the deserving women beneficiaries, heard their concerns and issued on-the-spot directives for due facilitation.

Deputy Mayor Karachi Salman Abdullah Murad and senior BISP officials welcomed her.

While talking to media the BISP Chairperson said BISP is Pakistan’s largest social protection programme. The world has recognized and is learning from it.

On the sideline, she added, other initiatives have also been taken for the empowerment of women. The Benazir Hunarmand Programme is among these, which is meant to promote economic self-reliance among the deserving families by providing modern skills training to women and their children.

Referring to Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, Senator Rubina Khalid said women should draw inspiration from her courage and fearlessly identify wrongdoings. “Women must be brave like Bibi Shaheed and stand against corruption,” she asserted.

She further stated that BISP is the largest social welfare program, from which the world is now learning. She noted that earlier policy gaps had allowed some ineligible individuals to benefit, but the reforms initiated have ensured strong checks.

She announced that surveys will now be conducted every three years to ensure that only deserving families remain in the programme and that more eligible households are included.

BISP Head said that everyone would be accountable before Allah Almighty for their actions and urged society not to deprive vulnerable women of their rights but to support and empower them.
