Karachi facing terror threat?

The Sindh police deserve a lot of praise for successfully foiling a major terror plot in the country’s economic hub, Karachi. According to media reports, police’s Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) has foiled a major terror plot in Karachi following an intelligence-based operation, leading to the arrest of suspected militants linked to a banned outfit.

A significant cache of arms and explosives is said to have been recovered from them. We all know that the provinces of KP and Baluchistan are already witnessing terror incidents day in and day out for quite some time. This development that has taken place in Karachi, a city of teeming millions that has the unfortunate history of ethnic and sectarian killings and bomb blasts, clearly indicates that the terror outfits have decided to expand their operations to Sindh’s capital, which has been experiencing peace, however relative, for quite some time.

The perpetrators of such crimes are quite known. Those who have been sponsoring and facilitating terrorists are also quite well known. Nevertheless, the situation requires the law enforcement agencies in Sindh to step up their vigil. In other words, they are required to increase alertness, surveillance, and protective measures, including heightened awareness, more patrols, and coordination between agencies to maintain security and prevent terror incidents. In sum, there’s no room for complacency at all.
