98th birth anniversary: Sindh Cabinet, Speaker and Mayor pay rich tributes to Bhutto
KARACHI: The Sindh Cabinet, the Speaker of Sindh Assembly and the Mayor of Karachi paid rich tributes to the founder of Pakistan People’s Party and former prime minister Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto on his 98th birth anniversary.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, in his message, said that Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was not an individual, but an ideology that would live forever. He was a great public leader and the creator of the unified constitution of Pakistan, 1973 Constitution, which laid the foundation of a stable Pakistan.
Shaheed Bhutto was a history-making figure, such people are born in centuries. He was a pioneer of people’s power and of the constitutional supremacy. He gave voice and identity to the poor, laborers and farmers. He also emerged as a great leader of the Islamic world.
Pakistan People’s Party has implemented his people-friendly vision, Shah said.
Speaking at a ceremony at the People’s Secretariat Karachi organized by PPP District East Wing to celebrate birth anniversary of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said that when Shaheed Bhutto formed the PPP, he did not seek support from the establishment nor resorted to any sit-ins.
The country is still benefiting from the achievements that Bhutto made during his five-year rule. Besides giving the unanimous constitution, he freed 90,000 prisoners from India and got back vast land of Thar.
Shaheed Bhutto made this country a nuclear power. Today, Pakistan can battle with a country many times bigger than her. “Today, the nation is proud of beating India. The credit goes to Bhutto.”
He said that in 1977, a so-called movement was launched against Shaheed Bhutto, behind it were those forces that were against Islamic power. Bhutto had called an Islamic summit to mobilize and unite the Muslim Ummah.
He said that when Shaheed Bhutto was being hanged, the whole world owned and wanted to take him. But, he continued, Bhutto said that he did not want to die at the hands of the history. He said that Shaheed Bibi took forward her father’s mission. Under the leadership of Asif Zardari and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, we will take forward the mission by serving the masses.
Saeed Ghani, Sindh Minister for Labor, Manpower and Social Security ,and President Pakistan People’s Party Karachi Division said that whether it is the death anniversary or birthday of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, we should talk about the history and inform , especially the youth, about the hard facts.
Shaheed Bhutto had formed a great party named Pakistan People’s Party at the age of 39. The powers of that time made every effort to eliminate it, but the PPP is still the largest political party of the country and true representative of the masses.
He said that the forces hostile to Pakistan sentenced Shaheed Bhutto to death to end PPP. Then, Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto was martyred to finish the party, but PPP continued to grow and has become stronger.
Saeed Ghani said that today, big landlords go to farmers to seek votes. This is the consciousness spread by Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
After two years, he said, we will celebrate Bhutto’s centenary in a dignified manner.
PPP Sindh’s General Secretary Senator Syed Waqar Mehdi said that Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto demonstrated his leadership skills to the whole world. He raised his voice against Ayub Khan’s dictatorship. He was the first elected Prime Minister of the country.
He said that Zulfikar Ali Bhutto had developed Karachi. The PPP recognizes Karachi as its own city. Even today, under the PPP’s Sindh government, development projects worth billions of rupees are being executed in the city.
He regretted that the city was destroyed by terrorism. But the PPP restored its identity.
In his message, Sindh Assembly Speaker Syed Owais Qadir Shah said that the leadership of the people’s leader Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto is still a beacon for democratic Pakistan.
The 1973 Constitution is a practical manifestation of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s people-friendliness and democratic thinking. It made the federation strong.
By laying the foundation for Pakistan’s nuclear program, Shaheed Bhutto made the country’s defense invincible, the Speaker said.
The industrial and educational projects given by Shaheed Bhutto are still playing a key role in the national development.
Sindh Minister for Local Government Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, in his message, said that leader of the people Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto will always remain alive in the hearts of the people.
He said that Pakistan People’s Party reiterates its commitment to the vision of a democratic and bright Pakistan under the leadership of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
Sindh Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Muhammad Ali Malkani, in his message, said that the leader of the Nation Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto is a symbol of people’s rights and democracy.
Bhutto was not just a name, but a thought, a commitment and a resistance to the oppressing and undemocratic forces.
“The people are still the heirs of Bhutto’s ideology.”
Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab said that Bhutto’s philosophy is still a beacon for the oppressed class. His struggle is an example for future generations. Peoples’ politics was started by Shaheed Bhutto, who made the people the source of power. He also gave Pakistan a global recognition.
“Shaheed Bhutto’s name will be written in golden letters in the history.”
Shaheed Bhutto’s vision is still the foundation of Pakistan People’s Party, the Mayor said.
