KARACHI: Pakistan rupee posted marginal gain for another week as it appreciated by Re0.08 or 0.03 percent against the US dollar in the inter-bank market.
The local unit closed at 280.17, against 280.25 it had closed the week earlier against the greenback, according to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).
Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb stated that Pakistan had reached a critical turning point where macroeconomic stability, sustained reforms and policy continuity were restoring confidence, shifting the economy from stabilisation to export-led growth, opening new horizons for domestic and global investors, and positioning the country for sustainable, long-term economic growth.
Pakistan government and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) signed two loan agreements totalling USD730 million aimed to transform the country’s state-owned enterprises (SOEs), and enable the power transmission network to uptake affordable and clean energy.
Pakistan’s liquid foreign exchange reserves stood at USD21.022 billion as of December 19, 2025, with reserves held by the SBP accounting for USD15.903 billion.
Open-market rates
In the open market, the PKR gained 9 paise for buying and 10 paise for selling against USD, closing at 280.63 and 281.20, respectively.
Against Euro, the PKR lost 1.41 rupee for buying and 1.59 rupee for selling, closing at 329.87 and 333.07, respectively.
Against UAE Dirham, the PKR gained 5 paise for buying and 2 paise for selling, closing at 76.54 and 77.34, respectively.
Against Saudi Riyal, the PKR lost 1 paisa for buying and remained unchanged for selling, closing at 74.81 and 75.39, respectively.
