LAHORE: Speakers at a seminar paid glowing tributes to Khawaja Muhammad Rafique Shaheed, father of the PML-N leader Khawaja Saad Rafique for democracy and political freedom.

The seminar was held here at Aiwan-e-Iqbal on Sunday in connection with the 53rd martyrdom anniversary of Khawaja Muhammad Rafique Shaheed.

Among others Minister for Law Azam Nazir Tarar, Prime Minister’s Political Adviser Rana Sanaullah, Mohsin Dhawar, Hamid Mir and Khawaja Saad Rafique spoke on the occasion.

The speakers said that Khawaja Muhammad Rafique raised his voice for truth and followed a path rooted in love for the homeland, politics and the common citizen. They said Khawaja Muhammad Rafique is a proud chapter in the country’s political history and his services for the country and democracy will always be remembered.

Federal Minister Azam Nazir Tarar in his address stressed that Pakistan urgently needs a “charter of politics” to ensure political stability, maturity and national progress. The proposed charter is not for any individual or political party, but solely for the beloved homeland, he said, adding: “Those who had played with the fate of the country were no longer hidden from the public.”

Tarar emphasized the need to adopt a positive attitude towards criticism, promote tolerance, and listen to political opponents.

The federal minister maintained that Pakistan had faced extremism in politics and added that it was the politicians’ responsibility to address issues with caution and wisdom. He warned that extremism and violence must not be allowed to dictate the course of political affairs.

Noting the current challenges, Tarar said that Pakistan needed dialogue, political stability and economic stability. “Without these, progress is not possible,” he said.

Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister’s Political Adviser Rana Sanaullah also called for addressing national issues through dialogue and meaningful engagement.
