ISLAMABAD: At least 56 crime incidents — including carjacking, robberies, mobile phone and cash snatching at gunpoint, and a murder — were reported to various police stations across the federal capital during the past week.

According to data compiled from police records, the reported incidents include 33 cases of carjacking, 14 robberies, eight street crime incidents involving mobile phones and cash, and one murder. In several robbery cases, citizens were deprived of valuables worth millions of rupees.

The data indicates that criminal gangs were most active in the jurisdictions of Khanna, Industrial Area, Karachi Company, Sunbal, Humak, and Koral police stations during the week under review.

In the same period, auto thieves stole five motorbikes from the limits of the Khanna police station, three motorbikes from the jurisdiction of Secretariat police station, another three motorbikes from the jurisdiction of Sunbal police station, three motorbikes from the limits of Margalla police station, four motorbikes from the jurisdiction of Hummak police station, and two motorbikes and one car from the limits of Industrial Area police station.

Among the most shocking incidents, during the last week, two armed robbers looted a motorcycle, cash, and mobile phones from Muzammil Ali, a cameraman with Aaj TV, at busy IJP road in the limits of the Industrial Area Police Station.

According to a police report, Muzammil Ali, a cameraman with Aaj TV, was intercepted by armed men on the busy IJP Road. As stated in the FIR, Muzammil Ali said that on December 17, while returning home after duty, he reached near New Katarian on IJP Road when two unidentified men riding a motorcycle stopped him at gunpoint.

The assailants snatched two expensive mobile phones, Rs12,000 in cash, a Honda 125 motorcycle (registration number RI-901), a video camera battery worth Rs40,000, along with his driving licence, national identity card, ATM card, and office card, before fleeing the scene.

During the last week, three cases of robbery and five cases of auto theft were reported to the Khanna police station. Robbers also struck at four different locations, and auto thieves stole two motorbikes, as well as, one car from the jurisdiction of the Industrial Area police station.
