KARACHI: The Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) and the Qazvin Chamber of Commerce & Industries, Mines and Agriculture (QCCIMA), Iran, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, agriculture, industry, infrastructure development and technical collaboration.
The MoU was signed by President KCCI Muhammad Rehan Hanif and President QCCIMA Hadi Abdian, during the visit of a high-level delegation of QCCIMA to the Karachi Chamber.
The MoU signing ceremony was attended by Commercial Attache of Iranian Consulate in Karachi Murad Nemati, Senior Vice President KCCI Muhammad Raza, Vice President KCCI Muhammad Arif Lakhani, Chairman Special Committee for MoUs Implementation Junaid Esmail Makda, along with members of the Executive Committee.
While highlighting the significance of this important collaboration between the two leading business institutions, President KCCI Muhammad Rehan Hanif stated that the MoU reflects a shared commitment to expand commercial, economic and investment relations between Pakistan and Iran, particularly between Karachi and Qazvin Province. He noted that both chambers have agreed to work closely to facilitate exports and imports, promote joint ventures and encourage private-sector-led growth in mutually beneficial sectors.
President KCCI explained that under the MoU, both sides have agreed to explore investment opportunities in agriculture and allied sectors including livestock, poultry, fisheries, horticulture, greenhouse development, cold storage, seed improvement, farm mechanization, irrigation systems, fertilizers and agro-processing.
He added that cooperation would also extend to industrial and mining sectors such as oil and gas, packaging, dairy processing, milk production, and value-added agricultural industries. He said that the MoU also provides a framework for collaboration in tourism, particularly health tourism, as well as the export of technical and engineering services in major infrastructure projects including dams, roads, buildings, airports and railways. “Such cooperation will help enhance connectivity, promote technology transfer and create new avenues for business communities on both sides.”
Speaking on the occasion, President QCCIMA Hadi Abdian welcomed the partnership with KCCI and expressed confidence that the MoU would pave the way for long-term institutional collaboration and stronger business-to-business linkages.
He emphasized that Qazvin Province offers vast opportunities in agriculture, industry and mining, and Iranian entrepreneurs are keen to engage with Pakistani counterparts, particularly through Karachi as the country’s principal commercial hub.
It was agreed that both chambers would nominate focal persons within two weeks to ensure effective follow-up and develop a practical implementation framework to translate the MoU into tangible projects and commercial outcomes.
The MoU reflects the mutual intent of both institutions to work together for the successful and effective promotion of bilateral trade, investment and economic cooperation.
