Gold, silver at new highs

KARACHI: Gold and silver prices took a huge stride to new record highs on Friday, tracking a global surge, traders said.

In the local market, gold gained Rs10,700 and Rs9,174, soaring to a fresh height of Rs454,262 per tola and Rs389,456 per 10 grams, respectively, All Pakistan Sarafa Gems and Jewellers Association said.

The association added that the international gold bullion prices shot up by USD107, setting new historic benchmark of USD4,319 per ounce with silver reaching all-time highs of USD64.2 per ounce, up by USD2.32.

Domestic silver prices followed suit, settling at new highs of Rs6,684 per tola, up by Rs232 and Rs5,730 per 10 grams, up by Rs199, according to the association.

It is worth noting that the open market may trade gold and silver at different prices as compared to those officially fixed by the association.
