EV scooters for women distribution: Sharjeel directs officials to begin 2nd Phase
KARACHI: Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon and Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon, on Wednesday, directed officials to immediately begin the second phase of distributing EV scooters for women.
He chaired a key meeting of the Transport and Mass Transit Department held in his office, which was attended by Secretary Transport Asad Zamin, Managing Director of the Sindh Mass Transit Authority, Kanwal Nizam Bhutto and other officials.
The meeting reviewed ongoing and upcoming transport and mobility projects across the province.
Senior Minister Memon said that under the Pink Scooters scheme, a large number of women will receive modern, eco-friendly travel options.
He said the initiative will support greater comfort and independence for women. New electric buses have arrived in Karachi and will soon begin operating on various city routes.
Surveys on four new routes in Khairpur, Shikarpur and Hyderabad have been completed, and bus service on these routes will start soon.
The Minister said all new routes will be activated this month so residents of these districts can benefit from modern transport services.
He also called for adding more double-decker buses on major city roads to help ease traffic pressure. He noted that the Sindh government is taking concrete steps to develop a modern, eco-friendly and sustainable transport system.
EV buses, EV scooters, double-decker buses and an EV taxi service will move Karachi and other cities into a new phase of improved mobility. Senior Minister Memon directed officials to ensure that all projects, which directly affect public convenience, are completed within the set timelines.
