LAHORE: Director General of the Intellectual Property Organization (IPO) Pakistan, Nauman Aslam Sheikh, visited the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) on Monday. During his visit, he emphasized that IPO plays a vital role in protecting the hard work of investors and securing their products.

LCCI President Faheem Ur Rehman Saigol welcomed the visit and stated that IPO Pakistan is an important institution whose efforts to protect the rights of the business community are highly commendable. He stressed that strong collaboration between IPO Pakistan and the Lahore Chamber is crucial for supporting the business sector and ensuring the protection of intellectual property rights.

The meeting was also attended by Senior Vice President Tanveer Ahmed Sheikh, Vice President of the SAARC Chamber Mian Anjum Nisar, and Executive Committee Members Amir Ali, Shoban Akhtar, and Firdos Nisar. The participants engaged in detailed discussions about enhancing trademark awareness and providing better facilitation services to the business community.

Nauman Aslam Sheikh informed the attendees that IPO currently provides five major services, including trademark registration, copyright protection, patent filing, industrial design registration, and geographical indication. He revealed that over one hundred Pakistani products have been identified for geographical indication registration. Of these, 22 products have already been successfully registered, while work on the remaining products continues at a steady pace. He acknowledged that Pakistan lags behind other regional countries in this area but assured that efforts are underway to expedite the process.

The DG expressed his strong commitment to working closely with the Lahore Chamber to raise awareness among businesspeople about the importance and benefits of intellectual property protection.

Saigol highlighted that having an IPO office located in the basement of the Lahore Chamber building provides significant convenience to LCCI members. He noted that both organizations regularly collaborate to conduct awareness sessions that help businesses understand the procedures for securing their product trademarks and protecting their intellectual property. He proposed developing a joint annual activity calendar to make these awareness programs more systematic and effective, ensuring maximum participation from the business community.
