The Punjab government has begun rolling out an AI-driven monitoring system, Talk to Camera, across the province following the recent death of a child in Lodhran caused by an open manhole.

According to a statement shared by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the system has been developed by the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) to enhance real-time surveillance and public safety.

The advanced tool enables officers to query the entire camera network using natural language and can automatically flag hazards such as open manholes, overflowing dumpsters and visible smoke.

The technology has undergone pilot testing in Lahore and Sheikhupura, with officials reporting positive results.

Following these trials, the provincial government has decided to scale the system across Punjab to improve rapid response capabilities and strengthen smart-city management.

The initiative is part of broader efforts to prevent avoidable accidents and enhance civic oversight using artificial intelligence.
