ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly Secretariat has sent a letter to MNA and Opposition Chief Whip Malik Muhammad Aamir Dogar, requesting a written clarification regarding any ongoing or past court cases involving the former Leader of the Opposition, Omar Ayub Khan.

According to the spokesperson of the National Assembly, “this step is necessary to complete the appointment process of the Leader of the Opposition in accordance with the prescribed legal and procedural requirements.”

The spokesperson further informed that the Secretariat was, earlier, informed by the opposition that no case was pending against Omar Ayub Khan; however, the required written verification in this regard has not been provided to the Secretariat. The presence of this written confirmation is essential for completing the process of nominating the Leader of the Opposition.

The letter requested Malik Muhammad Aamir Dogar to urgently provide the necessary information regarding the current status of any ongoing or past court cases related to the former Opposition Leader. According to the spokesperson, the National Assembly Secretariat has been made a party in some cases involving Omar Ayub Khan. An awareness of the latest legal status of Omar Ayub Khan holds significant importance.

The spokesperson made it clear that the appointment of the Leader of the Opposition can be processed once the written verification is received. The letter further urged the Chief Whip to submit the required documents to ensure a timely completion of the nomination process.
