ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) unanimously adopted the “Supreme Judicial Council Procedure of Inquiry, 2025”, provisionally.
The Council unanimously constituted a committee comprising Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail, Judge, Supreme Court of Pakistan, Justice Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi, Judge, Federal Constitutional Court of Pakistan and Justice Aalia Neelum, Chief Justice, Lahore High Court for making draft rules for regulating the procedures and conduct of business of the Council under clause 10 of Article 209 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
The SJC meeting was held at the Supreme Court, which chaired by Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi and attended by Justice Aminuddin Khan, Chief Justice of the Federal Constitutional Court of Pakistan, Justice Munib Akhtar, Judge, Supreme Court of Pakistan, Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail, Judge, Supreme Court of Pakistan, (Via Video Link), Justice Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi, Judge, Federal Constitutional Court of Pakistan, Justice Aalia Neelum, Chief Justice, Lahore High Court, (Via Video Link) and Justice Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar, Chief Justice, Islamabad High Court.
Pursuant to the 27th Constitutional Amendment, the SJC has been reconstituted in accordance with the revised constitutional framework, and now it consists of the Chief Justices of the FCCP and SCP; one next most senior judge each of the FCCP and the SCP; a judge of the FCCP or SCP jointly nominated by the Chief Justices of the FCC and SCP, for a period of two years; and the two most senior Chief Justices of the High Courts.
Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail, being the next most senior judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP), on November 18 was jointly nominated as a member of the Supreme Judicial Council by the Chief Justice of Pakistan and the Chief Justice of the Federal Constitutional Court of Pakistan (FCCP) under Clause 2 (d) of Article 209 of the Constitution.
