ISLAMABAD: The Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) has directed Chairman Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to take serious notice of maladministration being committed by some senior tax officers, reflecting administrative problems within the Board.

A serious communication issued from the office of the Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO), Dr. Asif Jah, has raised concerns regarding what the Ombudsman has described as serious administrative lapses within the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

Maladministration: FTO asks FBR chief to take action against officials

According to the FTO’s findings, the conduct of certain senior officers reflects “unreasonable attitude showing neglect, inattention and inefficiency in the discharge of their official duties, squarely falling under maladministration.”

In a public interest complaint Waheed Shahzad Butt versus Secretary Revenue Division, the FTO’s order states that this lapse has been formally referred to the Chairman FBR with the advisory to “look into this serious act of maladministration on his own, take appropriate action against the delinquent officers, and ensure that no such lapse occurs in future.
