ISLAMABAD: Islamabad witnessed a surge in heinous crimes over the past week, with six murder cases — including the killing of a police officer and a 17-year-old girl — registered at various police stations.

According to data gathered by Business Recorder through registered First Information Reports (FIRs), six murders were reported, including the killing of an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the city police. A young girl was also brutally killed after being stabbed multiple times, allegedly by her former fiancé.

In addition to the murder cases, 32 incidents of auto theft were reported, including thefts of one car and 31 motorcycle thefts.

The city also saw 12 cases of street crime involving armed mobile-phone snatching and cash theft, as well as seven robberies in which citizens were deprived of their valuables. Several police jurisdictions emerged as hotspots of criminal activity, including the Industrial Area, Khanna, Margalla, Ramana and Lohi Bheer police stations.
