Tarar criticises ‘unlawful’ demand of Afridi

Published Updated

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar on Friday criticised PTI and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi for what he called an unlawful demand to seek political guidance from their party’s jailed founder, who is serving a corruption sentence in Adiala Jail.

He said the request openly violates prison rules and reflects a misplaced political focus.

In a post on X, Tarar said PTI’s leadership had pushed aside governance and public welfare in KP, choosing instead to revolve their politics around instructions from a convicted individual behind bars. He noted that despite KP’s critical role in the fight against terrorism, the provincial government had failed to prioritise peace, development, and public relief.

The minister also alleged that a female PTI politician orchestrated a negative campaign through Afghanistan-based anti-Pakistan social media accounts and Indian media outlets to malign the country over issues linked to their former chairman. He said such conduct amounted to hostility towards Pakistan and harmed the country’s image internationally.

Tarar urged the PTI to abandon what he described as an anti-state narrative and to refocus on national interest and the welfare of citizens.
