LAHORE: Two of Pakistan’s most influential business groups have joined hands in what they are calling an economic battle for the nation’s future. The United Business Group and the Businessmen Panel announced their historic alliance at a press conference held at the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry regional office in Lahore, with senior leaders declaring their commitment to strengthening Pakistan’s economy through unity and urging the government to pursue genuine consultation with the business community rather than relying on a select few industrialists.
Former federal minister for Commerce Dr Gohar Ejaz, United Business Group Patron-in-Chief SM Tanvir, Businessmen Panel Chairman and former FPCCI president Mian Anjum Nisar, FPCCI Vice President Zaki Ejaz and other business community leaders addressed the media gathering.
They stated that just as Field Marshal Asim Munir has strengthened the country’s defense and helped Pakistan stand on its feet, the business community through this alliance will steer the national economy toward the path of progress. However, they emphasized that the government must bring economic reforms through consultation with the leadership of more than four hundred chambers and federations instead of just a handful of tycoons, and there should be an immediate review of agreements with remaining independent power producers.
The business leaders praised Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for winning the battle for justice and making the country unconquerable.
They pledged to make Pakistan economically strong but insisted that the government should not make decisions in collaboration with just a few tycoons but rather introduce reforms through consultation with the actual business community so that the country can move forward. They called for negotiations with remaining independent power producers to reduce rates and vowed that even while dealing with the International Monetary Fund, they are determined to help the country stand on its own feet.
Business leaders S M Tanvir and Mian Anjum Nisar said that Syed Asim Munir has given Pakistan prestige around the world and that they stand with the Pakistan Army. They declared that the business community is the vanguard for the government in achieving economic progress. Dr Gohar Ejaz, head of Pakistan’s business community, said they have brought together all factions of the business community by resolving their differences and now the government should sit down and address their demands regarding interest rates, electricity, gas and the burden of taxes. He pledged to help build economic strength for the nation.
