PRA to set up commissionerate for large taxpayers

LAHORE: The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has commenced work on major institutional reforms including a proposal to establish a dedicated commissionerate in Lahore for large taxpayers.

The authority is considering restructuring its operations on the pattern of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to enhance efficiency, improve staff performance and facilitate major taxpayers.

According to PRA officials, these matters were discussed during the 129th meeting of the authority, presided over by Chairman Moazzam Iqbal Sipra.

The meeting decided that enforcement officers’ daily performance reports would be linked to a central dashboard, supported by a comprehensive system of rewards and penalties. The meeting was also told that new positions are being created in the IT wing while efforts are underway to fully integrate the authority’s database and further upgrade the Sahulat App.

To ensure transparency and sustained performance, proposals for establishing dedicated audit and vigilance wings were also reviewed in the meeting. In addition, the PRA commissioner (appeals) will now be able to conduct case hearings via video link, while complaints received through the Sahulat App will be forwarded instantly to the relevant commissioner and enforcement officers. Officials further said action on consumer complaints will be mandatory within 24 hours, with field officers required to ensure merit-based redressal.
