ISLAMABAD: The embattled Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the party led by imprisoned former prime minister Imran Khan, on Wednesday accused international “Zionist” forces of conspiring to prevent Khan from returning to power, citing leaked emails from the late financier Jeffrey Epstein.
In a statement, PTI spokesperson Sheikh Waqas Akram said the emails allegedly revealed that powerful international figures viewed Khan as a significant threat to their geopolitical interests.
He emphasized that Imran Khan is the only contemporary leader with global recognition, credibility, and a visionary outlook for a Muslim renaissance – a point he claimed was supported by the recently surfaced emails from Epstein, who was described as a key figure in the Zionist network.
According to Akram, the emails showed that international power brokers viewed Imran Khan as a real threat to their imperial agenda, and the party alleged that a Zionist-engineered conspiracy, executed through local agents, was behind efforts to remove Khan from power and place him in arbitrary and unlawful detention.
He argued that the efforts to isolate and suppress Khan only reinforced his position as the sole leader opposing the prevailing political system in Pakistan.
“The campaign against Imran Khan only strengthens his narrative as the only voice challenging the unjust political system in the country,” he said. “We will continue to fight until true democracy is restored, the Constitution is upheld, and Imran Khan, along with all political prisoners, is released.”
The PTI also condemned what it described as “fascism” on the anniversary of November 26, 2024, pointing to media censorship, political repression, and the politicization of state institutions under the current hybrid regime.
The party linked the ongoing suppression of dissent to the authoritarian mindset that it says led to the violence of previous years.
“Despite the passage of time, the brutality of this regime continues,” Akram added.
He also raised alarms over Khan’s safety, accusing the government of subjecting him to harsh prison conditions and denying him access to legal representation, family visits, and medical care.
“His [Imran Khan] detention conditions are deplorable and in direct violation of court orders,” Akram stated. “We are deeply concerned about his physical and mental well-being,” he added.
