PESHAWAR: Inspector General of Police (IGP), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Zulfiqar Hameed on Tuesday said the number of terrorists’ incidents had been successfully thwarted due to proactive and full-prepared/trained police forces.
IGP confirmed that authorities have identified the location where terrorists spent their night before attacking the FC Headquarters. However, he added no facilitators have been arrested so far and investigations continue. Authorities are also determining the route the terrorists used to enter Peshawar.
The provincial police chief said massive investment was made for improvement in security infrastructure at police checkpoints level and those people who are defending, were in a better position.
IGP was talking to the media here after attending a ceremony of Media Cricket League as chief guest, which was jointly organised by Peshawar Press Club and Rehman Medical Institute (RMI) Peshawar.
The provincial police chief said, “Restoration of peace is topmost priority in this difficult province, our wish is to establish a durable and lasting calm in the province.”
He went on to say that positive sports activities make the society vibrant and better. He acknowledged that police and journalists were facing the same challenges and issues.
Yesterday, three suicide attackers came to storm the FC Headquarters in Peshawar but security forces timely neutralized them and foiled the attack, IGP said.
Flanked by PPC President M Riaz and Secretary General Malik Tayyab Usman and others, the provincial police chief informed all CCTV footage was obtained of the whole city.
He said the initial evidences revealed that the suicide bombers were Afghani. IGP said the investigation into yesterday’s cowardly act was launched by taking the motorbike of the attackers into custody. The provincial police chief said tactics were changed by the terrorists. Yesterday, everyone saw the preparedness and proactive demonstration of the police force and thwarted the attack on FC HQs in Peshawar, he added.
The Counter-Terrorism Department and Special Branch are jointly investigating the incident, IGP added.
The latest equipment is gradually inducting and equipping the police force with modern weapons and gadgets, including anti-drone, thermal gun, weapons and snapper guns.
Furthermore, IGP said the loss from police station, officer and lower level, aimed to ensure safety and security during movement. He added cases have aggressively investigated and chased/hunted the real culprits. Sophisticated and modern weapons and gadgets were provided to police forces in different districts of KP, says IGP.
