LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif said in her message on international day for the elimination of violence against women that women are worthy of respect in every situation. She added that violence against them or their harassment is not tolerated at all. She highlighted that “we are determined to make Punjab the safest province for women.”
The CM noted that Virtual Women Police Station, Panic Button and Helpline are remarkable steps to ensure safety of women. She said that Crime Control Department (CCD) is fully active against those who harass women. She added that concrete steps are needed to protect women from harassment on social media. She underscored that Punjab government is actively working to protect women and uphold their rights.
She said that a society free from violence and safe for women is a guarantee of civilization and progress. “Those who commit violence against women are cowards and criminals; they will be dealt with an iron fist. Virtual Women’s Police Station, panic button and helpline are the first step towards the protection of women. CCD is also fully active against those who harass women,” she added.
The CM said that every section of society must play its role to permanently prevent incidents of violence and harassment against women. “Public awareness in the society is very important to prevent violence and harassment against women. Daughters will study and move forward only in a fear-free and safe environment. Concrete steps also need to be taken to protect women from harassment and hateful content on social media,” she added.
