Beauty clinics: PRA intensifies crackdown on tax evasion

LAHORE: Beauty clinics in Punjab, particularly in major cities like Lahore and Karachi, have been generating crores in profits annually, but many have been quietly evading taxes, officials said.

The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has announced intensified efforts to bring these lucrative businesses into the tax net.

The disclosure came during a high-level meeting chaired by Moazzam Iqbal Sipra, Chairman of the PRA. All divisional commissioners have been instructed to complete surveys and ensure the registration of beauty clinics by December.

PRA sources confirmed that despite substantial annual revenues, numerous beauty clinics have not been contributing to the government treasury. As part of the crackdown, all clinics will be formally registered and integrated into the E-IMM (E-Information Manage-ment) system to enable complete tracking and compliance.

To address the shortage of enforcement officers, the PRA is deploying additional personnel in the field. A dedicated cell will also be expanded to monitor the performance of officers and staff digitally, ensuring accountability. Digital tracking will target operators who delay or fail to pay taxes.

Officials emphasized that the initiative aims to widen the tax base, improve revenue collection, and ensure that profitable businesses meet their fiscal responsibilities.
