At least five killed, three critically injured in Hyderabad firecracker factory explosion

At least five people were killed and six others wounded, including three critically, in an explosion at a firecracker factory located within the jurisdiction of Latifabad Police Station in Hyderabad on Saturday, Aaj News reported.

The blast left the factory badly damaged. Rescue teams and law enforcement officials have reached the site while relief operation is underway as several people are still stuck under the rubble.

A Rescue 1122 spokesperson said the powerful explosion ripped through the factory near the riverbank in Leghari Goth.

“The blast sparked a fire that quickly engulfed the facility, with initial reports indicating that several people sustained injuries,” said the spokesperson.

The Rescue 1122 said that its Central Command and Control immediately dispatched a fire and rescue team, along with an ambulance and a fire brigade truck, to the site.

Firefighting and rescue operations are ongoing, the official added.
