LAHORE: A citizen has approached the Lahore High Court on Tuesday challenging the 27th Constitutional Amendment Bill and asked the court to declare the same as unconstitutional.

The petitioner, Hassan Latif, through his counsel argued that under the impugned amendment, all powers of the Supreme Court have been transferred to a newly-proposed Federal Constitutional Court.

He further asserted that the 27th Constitutional Amendment Bill contradicts the true spirit of the Constitution, undermining the principle of separation of powers.

He also contended that the Chief of Defence Staff has also been granted lifelong immunity.

The petitioner, therefore, urged the court to declare the bill unconstitutional and null and void.
