ISLAMABAD: An FIR has been registered against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Sohail Afridi under the Cyber Crime Act for allegedly spreading “hate speech” and “misleading information” against the state institutions on social media.
According to the FIA, the case was filed at the Cyber Crime Reporting Centre in Islamabad following a citizen’s complaint lodged with the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA).
The FIR states that Sohail Afridi is accused of uploading and circulating videos on social media containing false, baseless, and misleading statements aimed at inciting hatred against state and national security institutions.
The report further alleges that the videos attempted to damage the reputation and credibility of the state and security agencies. It also mentions that the KP Chief Minister made false and provocative remarks against the state institutions during a media talk outside Adiala Jail, which were later shared through PTI’s official social media accounts.
Authorities said the investigations have been initiated, and further action will be taken in accordance with the law.
