Sindh varsities get more amount than Punjab’s and KP’s: Dr Tariq

KARACHI: Chairman, Sindh Higher Education Commission, Prof Dr Tariq Hafeez claims that public sector universities of Sindh get more amount than those of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

However, he advised the universities management should be very rationale and their demands for funds should be genuine.

“Sindh Government is giving you money generously and the credit goes to the Chief Minister,” he remarked adding that 30 universities in Sindh got Rs 50 billion in this budget that is good amount.

He was speaking as the Chief Guest at the farewell and certificates awarding ceremony at NIPA, where the Vice Chancellors of various universities (public and private) functioning in the province were given 5-day training to better lead their academies on the modern lines and to the changing world.

Chairman SHEC cited an example of a university, without mentioning its name, that it had three billion rupees in its kitty as surplus fund, yet request was sent to Sindh Government through SHEC demanding Rupees one billion portraying “if this amount is not grant in time, university will faces crisis and will be unable to pay next salaries to the employees.” All this came out when audit was done on the directives of the Chief Minister’s Secretariat.

He said the Commission is trying to impart trainings at all levels. This five-day classified training would boost the Vice Chancellors’ capacity not only in fulfilling their academic responsibilities but for strategic planning, better administration, digital reforms, financial and procurement matters, and human resources development.

“You need proper trainings about what you are doing,” he asserted adding SHEC is always available for your support. He announced that next training session for the Vice Chancellors will be conducted in March 2026 at NIPA Karachi.
