MUMBAI: India’s equity, currency and debt markets will be closed on Thursday, October 2, for a local holiday. Trading will resume on Friday, October 3.

On Wednesday, the benchmark Nifty 50 index ended 0.92 percent higher at 24,836.3 while the BSE Sensex added 0.89 percent to 80,983.31, supported by gains in banking stocks after the central bank eased rules for lending to capital markets and large corporates while holding interest rates for a second straight meeting.

The Indian rupee rose 0.1 percent to 88.69 versus the US dollar to notch its best day in two weeks after the Reserve Bank of India kept policy rates unchanged and the dollar slipped broadly as the US government shut down.
