LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif said in her message on ‘International Day of Older Persons’ that senior citizens are an important part of every society and it is our foremost duty to give them due respect and dignity. She added that providing essential facilities and care to the elderly is our prime responsibility.

She highlighted that elders are a reflection of our past, a guiding light for the present and a lesson for the future. She underscored that they are the torchbearers to nurture coming generations.

The Chief Minister noted that today’s comforts are made possible due to energies, experiences and sacrifices of the elderly during their youth. She appealed to youth to wholeheartedly respect, honour and serve their elders, calling Pakistan’s senior citizens a national asset. She paid them tribute and stated that Punjab government is taking measures to ensure dignity, welfare and comfort of senior citizens.

She said that Punjab’s old-age homes are being improved further, and elderly citizens have also been facilitated in performing Hajj.

She added that senior citizens are entitled to free travel on electric buses introduced by the Punjab government. She stressed that respecting elders is an integral part of our faith and culture, adding that their life experiences and observations are invaluable assets for our future generations.
